The local economy remains strong, with an ample
housing inventory (both for sale and rental), several new
businesses, and ample employment in many job
classifications. The chart to the right show employment
trends since 2001 in Rockbridge County and the cities of
Lexington and Buena Vista.
Glasgow is home to the largest industrial employer in
Rockbridge County, employing 40% of the industrial
workers in the County. Lee’s Carpets, a division of
Mohawk Industries employs approximately 1,100
people in the largest carpet manufacturing facility under
one roof in the nation. Mohawk announced, earlier this
year that it is beginning a $26.6 million dollar project to
expand and update its operations. This project will also
create 25 new jobs at the facility.v This plant currently
produces 20 million square yards of carpet and 30
million pounds of yarn annually.
